Starting therapy brings up a lot of questions — that's completely normal. Here are honest answers to the ones I hear most. If yours isn't here, just ask.
You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. People come for anxiety, low mood, grief, stress, relationship struggles, big life changes, or simply a sense that something feels off. If part of you is wondering whether therapy could help, that's usually a good enough reason to reach out and talk it through.
Completely normal. Most people feel some nerves before a first session, and that's okay. My goal is to make the space feel warm and judgment-free so you can settle in at your own pace — there's no right or wrong way to do this.
Mostly, we get to know each other. You'll share what's been going on, I'll ask some questions, and together we'll start to sketch out what you'd like to be different. There's no pressure to have it all figured out, and you only share what you're comfortable sharing.
The easiest first step is a free 15-minute consultation — a no-pressure call to talk through what's going on and see if working together feels right. You can schedule it online or send a note through the contact page.
It varies from person to person. Some people come for a focused stretch of a few months to work on something specific; others stay longer for deeper or ongoing support. Approaches like CBT are often relatively brief and skills-focused. We'll set goals together and revisit them as we go.
Many people start with weekly sessions to build momentum, then space them out as things improve. We'll find a rhythm that works for your needs, schedule, and goals.
I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based practices, IFS, and — when it's right — yoga therapy. Rather than using the same method for everyone, I tailor the approach to you and what you're working through.
What you share in therapy is kept private and protected by law. There are a few specific legal exceptions every therapist must follow — such as when there's a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult. I'll explain exactly what these mean at our first session so you always know where you stand.
All sessions are held in person at my Tucson office at 5669 N Oracle Rd, Suite 2101. I don't offer online or telehealth sessions.
Yes. I have over 20 years of experience with youth, adolescents, and adults. For younger children I also offer play therapy, a natural way for kids to express what they can't yet put into words, and I keep parents appropriately involved and supported. Learn more on the teen therapy page.
I'm in-network with many major insurance plans, and cash-pay (self-pay) clients are welcome too. You can see the full list of accepted plans on the Insurance & Fees page, and you're always welcome to reach out if you're unsure whether you're covered.
The best way to get answers is a quick, free conversation. No pressure — just a chance to connect and see how I can help.
